Reconciliation
Reconciliation: Restored by God’s Mercy
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Confession or Penance, is one of the Church’s greatest treasures, for it brings us back into the loving embrace of God. Pope Benedict XVI reminded us that “authentic world renewal is accomplished only through forgiveness… evil can be overcome only by forgiveness… and it has truly taken place with the suffering love of Christ, from whom we draw the power to forgive.” In this sacrament, we confess our sins to a priest, receive absolution, and experience the healing mercy of God that restores peace to our souls.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that Reconciliation not only pardons our offenses against God but also reconciles us with the Church, whose members are wounded by sin (CCC 1440). Known by several names, this sacrament highlights its many dimensions: conversion (turning back to the Father), confession (acknowledging our sins), penance (repairing the harm done), and forgiveness (receiving God’s pardon). Through it we are renewed, strengthened, and reconciled to live once more as faithful disciples. To learn more about preparing for or receiving this sacrament, please contact our parish office.
