Good Shepherd's #1 must attend event!

The Good Shepherd Fish Fry was started during Lent 1998. Rev. Marcian O'Meara had a goal to bring the community of Good Shepherd and the whole neighborhood together during Lent. Fr. O’Meara joined forces with a parishioner who grew up attending Lenten Fish Fries in small Midwestern communities. Together, it was also their goal that any proceeds generated from the dinners would be donated back to the community in an effort to "pay it forward."

The event first drew between 50-65 people per week. Since 2000, with the help of a dedicated volunteer coordinator and a "motley crew" of approximately 30 core volunteers, the event has grown beyond all expectations. In addition to the volunteers who literally work every Friday of Lent from morning until night, various groups in the parish/school community also volunteer in the dining area and receive the net proceeds, which are then divided equally between them and donated to a charity(s) of their choice.
